Nordman Fir (Abies nordmanniana)
The Nordman Fir was first
introduced to Britain in 1848 and is now the most popular Christmas

Norway Spruce (Picea abies)
Norway Spruce is the original
"Christmas Tree" species. Naturalised in Britain it is grown in
plantations for timber and Christmas sales. It usually has a regular,
conical shaped crown and densely packed sharp needles which closely hug
and nearly cover the stalks. The bark is thin and cracked, it usually
has a reddish appearance. The cones always hang downwards and can be up
to 18cm in length.
